Before You Begin Rating Your Wheel of Life...
A word of caution is in order. Self-report questionnaires have advantages and limitations. They are quick and easy to score. On the other hand, people filling them out may portray themselves in a way they want to be perceived, resulting in self-report bias. For example, some people exaggerate and mark all of the options as a “1”, in essence saying, "I''m glad to have a problem so that I can get help or have an excuse for the troubles I have." Others are in denial. They do not want to see any personal flaws and they report all “10’s”, in essence saying, "I''m okay. There''s nothing wrong with me. Leave me alone." Not all self-report bias is intentional. People may genuinely have difficulty recognizing and expressing what is happening in their life. Sometimes family members or friends are better at evaluating a loved one''s level of functioning than a person evaluating him or herself.
Please rate the following areas of your life on a scale of 1 to 10. Rating an area as “1” means that it needs a lot of improvement, and you are not satisfied with your current results. A rating of “10” is the highest rating an area can receive. This means you are perfectly happy with this area of your life, and it is not an area of concern for you. You would prefer to focus on other areas. While life is filled with ups-and-downs, the ultimate goal is to eventually rate every area of your life as a “10” and live with that rating more often than not.
